CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – After a successful outdoor season, the Nicholls State University women’s track and field team will take their talents to Texas as the squad faces the 2016 Southland Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the Dr. Jack Dugan Soccer & Track Stadium on the campus of the Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.
All thirteen women’s track and field programs will be competing this weekend at the championship meet.
The Colonels will face tough competition as Stephen F. Austin looks for its seventh title in eight years. The Ladyjacks won the most titles (seven total), followed by Sam Houston with four. No other current conference program has ever won a women’s team championship. SFA has also won the most individual titles, winning 62. McNeese is second, having claimed 40 and the Bearkats a close third with 39 total individual champions.
The championship meet will begin Friday morning with the women’s 10,000-meter run at 7:30 a.m. Women’s combined events will get underway at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, with field events beginning at 10 a.m.
Women’s combined events will conclude Saturday and are set for a 10 a.m. start. Preliminary running events begin on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. and continue through 7:30 p.m. Field events begin at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Sunday’s field events will get underway at 10 a.m. with running event finals beginning at 12 p.m. Team championship trophies and the meet’s high-point scorer will be presented at approximately 4 p.m. on Sunday. All individual award presentations will take place immediately following the completion of each event.
Admission to the 2016 Southland Outdoor Track and Field Championships is $20 for an all-session three-day pass, while a youth all-session pass is $10. For ticketing purposes, a youth is considered any child five years of age or younger. An adult single-day pass is $10 and a youth single-day pass is $5. Students at Southland institutions who present a valid student ID receive free, one-day admission.
