Thibodaux man arrested connected to 10 additional vehicle burglaries

Thibodaux Chief of Police Scott Silverii announced that Shannon Thomas (B/M, 19, 324 California Street in Thibodaux), who was arrested on June 18th for eight (8) counts of Vehicle Burglary and Possession of Stolen Things, has been charged with ten (10) additional counts of Vehicle Burglary as well as Theft of a Motor Vehicle and Theft of a Firearm.

On June 18th, just after 3 a.m., Thibodaux Police officers patrolling the area of Josephine Avenue spotted a male subject riding a bicycle. Officers made contact with the man and identified him as Shannon Thomas. After speaking with officers, Thomas voluntarily allowed them to search a backpack he was carrying, and officers found stolen property inside the bag. Thibodaux Police Detectives then began questioning him about other vehicle burglaries in the area and contacted Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives after Thomas confessed to burglaries outside the city limits.

On Thursday, June 25th, Police arrested two suspects, Landon Johnson and a Juvenile, after they were caught committing Vehicle Burglaries in the area of Ridgefield Road at an Apartment Complex. After a foot chase, Officers were able to take them into custody.

Through investigation, Police were able to connect fifteen (15) other vehicle burglaries to Johnson that happened over the previous weeks. One of which a vehicle was stolen, but later recovered by Police when they spotted the vehicle, the suspect fled on foot, and another where a gun was stolen out of an off duty Sheriff Deputy’s unit. Shannon Thomas was connected to ten (10) of those Vehicle Burglaries, the stolen vehicle, and the stolen firearm that was taken from the off duty Sheriff Deputy’s unit.

In total, Thomas now faces eighteen (18) counts of Vehicle Burglary, Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Theft of a Firearm, and Illegal Possession of Stolen Things. Thomas is being held at the Lafourche Parish Detention Center on his $141,000.
